RPS Sample Letter

Dear ____________________________________,

I am writing to ask that you co-sponsor SB 103 (Frerichs)/ HB 2864 (Mautino), a bill that would update Illinois’ Renewable Portfolio Standard to function in today’s utility market.

Since 2007, when Illinois first set a goal of getting to 25% renewable energy by 2025, renewable energy has brought Illinois 20,000 new jobs, saved consumers $177 million per year in wholesale electricity prices, and displaced 5 million tons of air pollution per year. However, in-state renewable energy development sharply decreased last year as a result of changes to Illinois’ utility market. For example, zero new wind projects were built in Illinois in 2013, and very minimal solar was developed. Luckily, this year we have a chance to get back on track with SB 103 and HB 2864 which would update the RPS to function in today’s utility market.

As a mother, I am very invested in making sure we build a clean energy economy here in Illinois. I want to make sure that my children can breathe clean air, drink clean water, and build a future on a planet with a stable climate. I am also invested in strengthening our economy in a sustainable and equitable manner. The state government should be doing everything they can to make sure that Illinois fosters the clean energy job market, so that our children can build a future in a thriving economy.

SB 103/HB 2864 is an important piece of making sure we give the green light to renewable energy in our state. Please co-sponsor the bill, and do everything that you can to make sure it passes in this legislative session.

Thank you for your time and your service to our state.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
